This request addresses concerns regarding the promotion of the “Mo Agenda” in the Kintampo Municipality, driven by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). The Mo Agenda is a strategic plan, initiated by dissatisfied members of the Mo community, led by Nana Kwaku Dankwa III. Its objective is to assert ownership over lands, institutions, and cultural heritage sites, including the Kintampo Waterfalls. Both the MCE and the Member of Parliament (MP), who belong to the Mo heritage, have shown support for this agenda and have recently demonstrated noticeable bias against the Bono people.
Nana Kwame Baffoe IV, the overlord of the Nkoranza Traditional Council, which includes Kintampo, has expressed concerns regarding the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Isaac Donkor. He is worried that the MCE has repeatedly ignored invitations to discuss important developmental issues in Kintampo. Similarly, Nana Awiti Kuffour II, who has been the Chief of Kintampo since 1979 after being enstooled in 1973, shares frustrations about the MCE’s lack of communication. Despite disregarding the Nkoranzamanhene and the Kintampo Bono sub-chiefs, the MCE continues to engage socially with the Mo chiefs. Additionally, during his confirmation, Hon. Donkor did not extend invitations to either Nana Awiti Kuffour II or any chiefs from the Bono enclave.
Following his confirmation as the MCE for Kintampo, Hon. Donkor connived with Hon. Kumah who collaborated with Nana Kwaku Dankwa III to send a letter to the Kintampo Water Supply board, requesting that they vacate their positions to be replaced by the Mo’s. They claimed that the institution was situated on land that rightfully belonged to them, even though the matter was under consideration by a competent court. This association intervened to prevent them from carrying out their agenda. It is also alleged that the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Member of Parliament (MP) have allocated part of Baffoe L/A Primary School’s land for a palace for the Mo Traditional Council.
It’s unacceptable to take land meant for a school for such purposes. We urge all education stakeholders and responsible chiefs to oppose this decision and demand accountability.
Recently, a video circulating on social media shows MP Joseph Kwame Kumah using dance gestures to express his loyalty to Nana Dankwa III. In the video, he portrays him as superior to all other chiefs and as the sole custodian of the Kintampo lands. As representatives of the president and Member of Parliament, we believe that they must conduct themselves with integrity. Their actions and inactions should promote unity among all feuding tribes to foster peaceful coexistence in the municipality.
We must formally record that, as we speak, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), with the tacit support of the Bono East Regional Minister, Hon. Francis Owusu Antwi, has written to discontinue the services of both the Site Manager and the Chief Revenue Collector at Kintampo Waterfalls. The stated reason for their dismissal is to conduct a Revenue Mobilization Test at the site (a copy of the letter is attached).
It is important to note that following the tragic incident in 2017 that resulted in the loss of several school children’s lives, the management of the waterfalls was depoliticized and transferred to the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the Traditional Authority (Kyeremankumah Asumansia Stool Lands), and the Municipal Assembly, as directed by theMinistry of Tourism and the Parliamentary Select Committee on Tourism.
Consequently, all employment matters, as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), are handled by the GTA in direct collaboration with the other two stakeholders. Therefore, it is surprising that the MCE would use the minister to dismiss staff members he perceives to be affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Bono’s, to replace them with individuals from the Mo. We are aware that a list of names from Mo has already been submitted to the minister to replace the affected staff, furthering the agenda of Mo.
On October 18, 2025, members of the Nkoranzaman-Kintampo Nkosuo Kuo were invited to a meeting with the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to discuss a petition aimed at restricting the street procession aspect of the Mo
Yam Festival celebration. In this petition, we requested that the Mos refrain from pouring libations into specific rivers owned by the Bono people and avoid using routes through Bono-dominated areas to prevent potential conflicts.
MUSEC told us that they had earlier reached an agreement with the Mos who had agreed to our demands. However,Hon. Isaac Donkor, who is the MUSEC chairman promised to issue a guideline to guide the conduct of the street procession few days before the festival but unfortunately, it never came.
Therefore, we were shocked when, on November 4, 2025, the Mos, led by Nana Kwaku Dankwa III, defied MUSEC’s orders and occupied several major streets in the Bono settlements and fired gunshots with live bullets, instilling panic in our community.
We urge the Municipal Police Commander and the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to prioritize the safety and security of the people of Kintampo. We will not tolerate any actions by the Mos that threaten to besiege the Bono settlements and create chaos.
