Locally produced goods lead inflation in October 2025 – GSS

Locally produced goods remained costlier than imports in October 2025, the Government Statistician, Dr Iddrisu Alhassan, has said.

According to data released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), most items contributing to inflation during the month were locally sourced food products.

Herrings, plantain, cooked rice, charcoal, and ginger were among the top items driving price increases.

The October 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report ranked herrings, green plantain, cinema and cultural services, and cooked rice as the four biggest contributors to inflation.

Other locally produced foods such as cassava, kenkey with fried fish, onions, and yam also featured prominently on the list.

Imported goods, including vegetable oil and tomato paste, made relatively smaller contributions to the month’s inflation compared to domestic food items.

The data highlights that local food and non-food items continue to dominate inflation trends across the country.
