You named me Jay Foley

Media personality and creative powerhouse Jay Foley has penned a deeply emotional open letter to legendary music producer Hammer of the Last Two, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the life-changing impact Hammer had on his journey.

In the touching message shared on social media, Jay Foley reflected on their 24-year friendship, recalling how a teenage dream led to the defining moment that shaped his career.

“A young 15-year-old boy who was so inspired by your music and beats found meaning to life at a very early age,” he wrote. “You may not know how deep you’ve impacted my life, but God sent you as an angel into my life.”

Foley revealed that it was Hammer who gave him his now-iconic name, “Jay Foley” — during a visit to Hush Hush Studios, a day he described as a divine turning point.

“You named me ‘Jay Foley.’ I remember that day so well, and that alone was enough to turn me into what I was to become in the future,” he reminisced.

The heartfelt post was not only a personal tribute but also a nod to the golden era of Ghanaian hip-life music, where Hammer’s signature productions for Obrafuor, Tinny, Kwaw Kese, Paa Dogo, and Bollie became the soundtrack of a generation.

“Your music was and still is different. It’s iconic, original and a game changer,” Foley declared, adding that Hammer remains his “hero, godfather, and special angel.”

He further acknowledged the memory of Hammer’s former protégés, Mr. White, Blitz, Scizo, and others, who have since passed away, noting that they, too, would testify before God about the producer’s influence.

Foley’s emotional close summed up his immense gratitude:

“You triggered Jay Foley. You struck a chord on your keyboard that started this journey for me. If the world today has benefited anything from me, then it’s because you were part of the people who started playing the tune of my life.”

He concluded by calling on others to cherish their own “Hammers”, mentors who shape destinies quietly but profoundly.

“Just as I found my Hammer, may everyone else find theirs too,” he wrote with a heart emoji.
