Ken Ofori-Atta has no interest in SML – Lawyer rebuts allegations

Lawyer for Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), Cephas Boyuo, has dismissed allegations linking former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to the company, insisting that the claims are unfounded and unsupported by evidence.
Addressing the media on Friday, Boyuo said the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) must base its work on verifiable facts rather than speculation.
“For a serious investigative organisation like the OSP, you do not work with insinuations. You don’t say ‘it will appear as if’ or ‘it looks like.’ Investigations must be based on evidence,” he stated.
He explained that there was no basis for the assertion that Ofori-Atta had a personal or financial interest in SML, noting that the company’s ownership was well known and transparent.
“It is untrue that Ken Ofori-Atta has an interest in SML. It’s only for Evans Adusei,” he clarified, adding that such false claims only serve to mislead the public.
Mr. Boyuo also highlighted the financial burden SML faced in importing its operational equipment, arguing that the former Finance Minister did not extend any special treatment to the company.
“Every equipment that SML brought in, Ken Ofori-Atta refused to give SML exemption. SML paid for everything. So if he had an interest, why did he not just allow them to bring in the items freely?” he questioned.
He reiterated that SML has complied with all legal and financial obligations under its contract with the government and urged the OSP to conduct its investigations professionally, grounded in evidence rather than assumptions.
