Osei Bamfo refutes claims of GHC 20 million debt to GOIL under NPP tenure

Former Deputy Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit(MMT) , Nana Osei Bamfo, has refuted claims that the company incurred a GH¢20 million debt to GOIL during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) administration.
Mr. Bamfo insisted that the debt was inherited from the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
“It is not true that we created a GH¢20 million debt to GOIL. If you doubt what I’m saying, you can go to GOIL and verify for yourself,” he said in an interview on Oyerepa FM/TV monitored by MyNewsGh.
According to him, when the NPP assumed management of Metro Mass, they discovered the debt had been left behind by their predecessors.
“We came to meet that debt. Together with other administrators, we even wrote to the Presidency, requesting that the government subsidy be directed towards reducing that amount,” Mr. Bamfo explained.
He admitted, however, that the debt was not completely settled before the administration’s exit. “We couldn’t fully clear it before we left office,” he noted candidly.
When the host asked whether his team added to the existing GH¢20 million debt, Mr. Bamfo acknowledged that some additional costs may have been incurred during the COVID-19 period.
“During the COVID era, we might have incurred our own debts, but it was marginal, nothing close to the figure being thrown around,” he clarified.
