The media play a crucial role in health delivery-Dr. Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey

Filed by Nana Yaw Aboagye from Accra, National Vaccine Institute.

The National Vaccine Institute trains journalists on vaccine communication and advocacy to broaden their knowledge about vaccines as the institution prepares to produce vaccines locally.

During the training, Dr. Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey, CEO of the National Vaccine Institute (NVI), stated that the HE Excellency John Dramani Mahama has already committed $50 million as seed funding and the institute is also in talks with some banks in Africa to facilitate local vaccine production in Ghana.

Dr. Sodzi-Tettey explained that although the government and the Ministry of Health are making good progress in vaccine production, there are financial and human resource challenges. They need to attract more vaccine-producing experts to join the institution.

He further mentioned that Ghana, in sub-Saharan Africa, will be the first country to produce its own vaccine, which will make the nation proud globally.

Currently, NVI is working on two vaccines and aims to roll them out in 2026.

According to Dr. Sodzi Sodzi-Tettey, the media play a crucial role in health delivery, and engaging with the media will help promote and facilitate the vaccine’s acceptance once they are ready to be administered by the Ghana Health Services.
