Martin Amidu calls for forensic audit into OSP’s finances and recruitment

Martin Amidu has called for an independent forensic audit into the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), claiming the institution has been weaponized by both the NPP and NDC to serve partisan interests instead of the public good.

The former Special Prosecutor argued that Ghana’s corruption problem stems not from a lack of laws or institutions, but from the absence of “honest and incorruptible leadership” willing to apply those laws without fear or favour.

“Ghana was losing the fight against corruption not because of the absence of institutions,” he wrote, “but because we did not identify the men with the selfless honour and integrity to provide the leadership.”

He urged President Mahama to take concrete steps to restore public confidence in the justice system, starting with a forensic audit of the OSP to determine compliance with constitutional provisions and the effective use of public funds.

“The President, if he really wishes to put the accusations against the Special Prosecutor to rest, should order an independent forensic audit into the OSP,” Amidu advised.

He warned that until Ghana ends the political weaponization of its law enforcement institutions, “every government will continue the cycle of persecution and revenge”, a practice he likened to “the dark era of the Christian Inquisition.”

Amidu concluded by emphasizing that any genuine anti-corruption drive must operate “blindly without recognition of political party affiliation,” calling for the appointment of leaders ready to risk their jobs and emoluments for the sake of principle.
