DNA Controversy: I’m inundated with calls and texts

Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah says he’s being dragged into the ongoing controversy surrounding the family of the late Samuel Aboagye, one of the victims of the August 6, 2025 military helicopter crash.

Reacting humorously but firmly on social media, the MP wrote:

“Why are people calling and texting me like I’m the only Kumasi MP in Ghana? Please oo, I’m just here eating my waakye in peace, I don’t even own a cotton swab!”

His post comes after unverified rumors began circulating online linking an unnamed Ashanti Region MP to Mrs. Abigail Salami Aboagye, the widow of the late soldier, in connection with the ongoing DNA test controversy. Though Ekow’s name was never officially mentioned, his post appears to be a direct response to the online speculation.

Meanwhile, the family of Samuel Aboagye has taken legal action against Mrs. Aboagye for allegedly refusing to present their daughter, Queen Alisa Aboagye, for a DNA test. The family insists the test is crucial not only to confirm paternity but also to determine rightful beneficiaries to the deceased’s estate.

According to family sources, multiple appeals were made to Mrs. Aboagye, but she reportedly declined to cooperate. “We simply want clarity and fairness,” one relative is quoted as saying. “This is not about malice, it’s about doing the right thing for everyone involved.”

Samuel Aboagye tragically died in the military helicopter crash that claimed several lives. The family says the widow’s resistance to the test has made an already painful loss even harder to bear.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, they were forced to obtain DNA samples from another child the late officer had with a different woman to complete certain official verifications, an experience they described as both painful and unnecessary.
