Military recruitment stampede injures 5

The Ashanti regional minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene has confirmed that five persons have been injured as a result of a stampede during the ongoing military recruitment exercise.

The Minister in a post shared via social media indicated that he has directed that they receive the best care.

His post read “I have been informed of five (5) young people who sustained various injuries during the unfortunate stampede at the ongoing military screening exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

I have since directed that they receive the best possible medical care and full support to ensure their speedy recovery.

We deeply regret this incident and remain committed to ensuring that all future recruitment and screening exercises are conducted in a safe, orderly, and humane manner.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected individuals and their families”.

Meanwhile, 6 potential recruits died during the recruitment exercise in Accra.

President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that the victims are all women.

He has since directed for a thorough investigation into the matter emphasizing the need improved measures during public recruitment and national events.
