Afenyo-Markin questions absence of 24-hour economy policy in 2026 budget

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticized the 2026 budget for failing to outline any concrete steps toward the government’s promised 24-hour economy initiative.
Speaking in Parliament moments after Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson presented the budget, he argued that the government had abandoned a key pledge that many young people were expecting to see reflected in the policy document.
“You said 24-hour economy, the youth are asking where the jobs are,” he said.
“You didn’t even mention the 24-hour economy in the budget. The 1 Job, 3 shift idea, where is it?”
According to Afenyo-Markin, the omission raises questions about the government’s seriousness regarding job creation and economic expansion.
He suggested that the administration had raised expectations without backing its proposals with a detailed implementation plan.
The Minority Leader maintained that young people looking for employment were hoping for clarity, adding that the absence of the policy in the financial statement showed a lack of direction.
He insisted that the government must provide a proper explanation as to why the flagship proposal was not featured.
