Family of El-Wak tragedy victims can sue state
Lawyer and Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Kwabena Boateng, has stated that the families of the six people who died at the El-Wak Sports Stadium can pursue legal action against the state for negligence.
Speaking on Ezra Adekyea monitored by MyNewsGh, Boateng said, “There’s a high chance when they take on the government over this issue, they would triumph.”
He explained that the tragic incident during the military recruitment exercise could have been avoided if proper measures were in place.
“Everything shows the military failed to properly put measures in place to contain the avalanche of prospective soldiers who thronged to the venue during the recruitment,” he said.
Boateng further criticized the handling of applicants, noting that those who obtained forms should have been managed more carefully.
“Knowing the number of people who got forms to apply, they should have handled them in a way that the tragedy that occurred would have been averted, but they grossly overlooked it,” he added.
