President Mahama swears in new Hajj Board

President John Mahama has sworn in the new Hajj Board, chaired by Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko, calling for precision, transparency, and innovation in Ghana’s annual pilgrimage.

He urged the board to focus on early planning, accountability, pilgrims’ welfare, courtesy among officials, and strong stakeholder communication.

“Pilgrims and their families must know how their money is used,” he said, stressing that all payments should go through traceable channels.

The President highlighted the importance of safety and health, urging coordination with the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Transport, and Ghana’s Embassy in Riyadh to ensure safe travel, decent accommodation, meals, and medical care.

He noted that the inclusion of a heart surgeon on the board would strengthen medical preparedness.

Officials and volunteers were tasked to maintain courtesy and fairness, while the board is also developing a Hajj Mobile Application to allow pilgrims to register, verify status, track payments, and access travel information.

President Mahama added, “Coordination prevents crisis and communication prevents rumours.”
