Minority must admit they were wrong on Mahama third-term claims

Senior journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has taken issue with what he describes as the inconsistent positions of the Minority in Parliament regarding the Chief Justice controversy.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana monitored by MyNewsGh, Pratt said he was “completely amused” observing how the Minority shifted its earlier argument that the Chief Justice was being removed to enable John Mahama pursue a third term.

He stated, “A few months ago, you said the Chief Justice was being removed so President Mahama could run for a third term. Today he has publicly declared he is not running for a third term. Why are you still on that path?”

Pratt insisted the opposition should show candour. “You have changed your position completely, and you don’t have the decency to look the public in the eye and say you were wrong.”

He also criticised the Minority Leader’s introduction during the vetting of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, calling the Shakespeare quotation inappropriate for a parliamentary audience.

According to him, “The quotation was completely useless. Even I, who studied Shakespeare, could not see its relevance.”

He questioned whether the speech was understood by ordinary citizens; “Do you sincerely believe even 10 percent of Ghanaians understood that quotation?”

Pratt further argued that if the Minority believes the President has acted beyond his powers, the lawful step is to seek judicial review, not to stage a walkout.

“Only a few months ago, every disagreement with the NPP ended with ‘Go to court’. Now the NDC does not want to go to court. What has changed?” he asked.
