Guard jealously the institutional integrity and independence of the judiciary—Mahama to CJ

President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has urged the new Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe Bonnie, to guard jealously the institutional integrity and independence of the Judiciary.
According to him, he should always remember that every file on your desk and every case in your courts represents human lives, families, and futures.
The president made this known while swearing in the Chief Justice on November 17, 2025.
He said, “Congratulations, Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie, Chief Justice of the Republic of #Ghana.
Remember, my Lord Chief Justice, that you stand at the intersection of law, history, and service. The expectations of our people are high, but so too is their hope.
You must, therefore, lead with courage, even when decisions are difficult or unpopular; guard jealously the institutional integrity and independence of the Judiciary and always remember that every file on your desk and every case in your courts represent human lives, families, and futures”.
Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie becomes Ghana’s 16th Chief Justice after Gertrude Torkonoo.
