Police arrest notorious suspect in violent Western North mining site robbery

The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect believed to be involved in a violent robbery at a mining site near Sefwi Antobia.
The suspect, identified as Victor Biney, alias Abeiku, was apprehended on Monday, 17th November 2025. Biney was already on the police wanted list for multiple robbery cases.
His arrest follows a report that seven armed and masked men attacked miners at the site, assaulting them with cutlasses and stealing gold concentrate and mobile phones.
According to preliminary investigations, the robbers were armed with pump-action and single-barrel guns.
They reportedly stormed the mining site, subjected miners to severe beatings, and made off with gold concentrate and other valuables. Three of the attackers were said to be wearing distinctive smocks, with one decorated with talismans and another sporting a military shirt.
A search conducted at the suspect’s shrine in Attakrom yielded a military camouflage shirt, a pair of handcuffs, two cutlasses, a single-barrel gun, several flashlights, seventeen AAA live cartridges, multiple smocks, mercury, gold concentrate particles, a pump-action gun butt, and other items linked to the robbery.
At the police station, Biney admitted ownership of several recovered items. The victims identified some of the flashlights, mercury, gold concentrate, and three smocks as items stolen during the attack. They also confirmed that the military shirt and other smocks matched what the robbers wore.
Western North Regional Police spokesperson stated, “Victor Biney is now in our custody, and the victims have positively identified items recovered from him. We are committed to bringing all other suspects to justice.”
Biney was presented before the Juaboso District Court on 17th November 2025 and has been remanded into police custody to reappear on 8th December 2025. Authorities continue a manhunt for the remaining accomplices.
