Terrorists kidnap students, teachers from boarding school in Nigeria, Catholic Diocese confirms

The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora has confirmed a violent attack and kidnapping at St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Niger State, Nigeria, in the early hours of November 21, 2025.

In an official statement, Diocesan Secretary Fr. Jatau Luka Joseph said armed attackers stormed the school between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., abducting pupils, students, teachers, and a security officer who was “badly shot.”

He described the incident as one that caused “fear and distress within the school community.”

The Diocese condemned the attack and expressed deep concern for the abducted children and staff. According to Fr. Joseph, security agencies were immediately alerted and rescue efforts are ongoing.

“The Bishop assured the public that the Diocese is actively collaborating with security operatives, community leaders, and government authorities,” he said.

The Diocese also urged the public to remain calm and support security operations.

“We call on everyone to continue praying for the safe and quick return of all abducted,” the statement noted, reaffirming the Church’s commitment to protecting children.

Fr. Joseph concluded with a prayerful appeal: “May the Lord grant quick release to those abducted and continue to protect his people from all danger.”
