SDD-UBIDS appeals for special window to complete GETFund projects

Vice-Chancellor of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies ( SDD-UBIDS), Prof. Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile has appealed to the government of President John Mahama to grant the University a special funding window to enable it to complete all its GETFund projects before the end of 2026 due to the huge infrastructural gap of the University.

While expressing gratitude to the government for allocating GHC 10 million to the University as seed money, he noted that the yawning infrastructural gap in the University requires much more, notwithstanding the enormous impact of the seed money.

He made the passionate appeal in a speech last Saturday during the University’s 4th Congratulation Ceremony held at Bamahu, Wa.

“Kindly permit me to express our gratitude to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana and the Government of Ghana (through the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu) for the allocation of GHS 10 Million Seed Money to the University.

We will apply these funds to improve our infrastructure and operations. Although this amount will make a difference, the infrastructure and funding gap is huge.

On behalf of the University, I want to appeal to the President through the Hon Minister for Education for a special funding window to complete all GETfund projects on campus before the end of next year.

In October this year, the University presented a budget of One Hundred and Ninety-Three Million Ghana Cedis (193 Million Ghana Cedis) to GTEC as the amount required from the Government/GETFund for completing these projects on campus,” Prof Derbile explained.

SDD-UBIDS( formerly UDS, Wa Campus) was created as a full university through an act of Parliament in 2019, becoming fully autonomous in 2020.
In 2021, the University admitted its first batch of students as a fully-fledged university.
