December funeral for Daddy Lumba ‘impossible and irresponsible’

The direct family of late Highlife star Daddy Lumba has outlined some logistical hurdles and a breakdown in mediation as key reasons for disavowing a publicly announced December funeral date.

According to a family press release, a December burial is “impossible and irresponsible” for several practical reasons.

Some of the late musician’s children residing in Germany are preparing for critical academic exams that cannot be postponed.

Furthermore, many immediate family members abroad require reasonable notice to secure leave from their jobs, which a December date does not allow.

The family also points to the international stature of Daddy Lumba, noting that friends and communities across Europe and North America need adequate time to travel and pay their respects.

The statement reveals that a mediation meeting in Stamkese, chaired by traditional authorities and witnessed by both parties, had resulted in binding resolutions.

These included the dissolution of the old funeral committee and the formation of a new one.

The family accuses Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu and his associates of having “blatantly ignored” these agreements by proceeding unilaterally with funeral announcements and financial activities.

The family has called on the public and traditional authorities to disregard all unauthorised announcements and support a more transparent and unified planning process.
