Martin Kpebu slams OSP for ‘bad PR’ after invitation confusion

Lawyer Martin Kpebu has criticised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he calls misleading public communication regarding his recent invitation to the office.

He argued that statements made by OSP official Samuel Osei were “dishonest,” suggesting they were intended to create the impression that he was avoiding an inquiry.

“It’s a very dishonest attempt to give me bad PR,” he said in an interview on TV3 monitored by MyNewsGh.

Kpebu insisted that the OSP did not contact him through any of the official channels familiar to him, despite long-standing communication between him and Osei.

Instead, he said the only attempt to reach him came from an unknown number, which he could not prioritise.

He maintained that the short notice given, an invitation issued on Thursday for a Friday appearance, was unreasonable.

He received a more formal notice at the close of day on Friday to appear on Tuesday, which he described as the only proper invitation.

Kpebu quoted portions of the letter to refute any claims that he is under investigation. He said the OSP clearly stated that he was being called to “assist with information and clarification” in a neutral fact-finding process.

He added that his public criticisms of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, including announcements of petitions calling for his removal, may have contributed to attempts to portray him negatively.

“If I didn’t have any grounds, I wouldn’t be presenting a petition,” he said.

Kpebu maintained that he will respond openly to any public claims he considers inaccurate.
