Ashanti Region excluded from key development projects – Kumawu MP

Hon. Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament(MP) for Kumawu, has raised concerns over the 2026 national budget, claiming that the Ashanti Region has been excluded from major development initiatives, reflecting the priorities of the John Mahama administration.

Speaking on Oyerepa Radio, Hon. Anim said, “Since President John Dramani Mahama resumed office 11 months ago, the Ashanti Region has not benefited from any significant government projects. This is evident in the budget proposals.”

He pointed out that while the 2026 budget includes plans to construct 10km roads in about 160 constituencies across the country, the Ashanti Region is conspicuously missing from the list. According to him, this exclusion indicates where the government’s focus lies.

Hon. Anim also reflected on the implications of such decisions, noting that initial goodwill toward a government can diminish when citizens do not see tangible results. He drew parallels to the early months of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure, suggesting that public confidence depends heavily on government action.

Looking ahead, the Kumawu MP expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP), if granted another mandate, would adopt a different approach. “We have learnt from our previous term missteps. If Ghanaians give us the opportunity again, we will implement projects more equitably and ensure no region is left behind,” he said.

He also hinted at potential internal challenges within the current administration, warning that ongoing disputes among officials could affect government performance.
