Ghana, Burkina Faso sign agreements to boost connectivity and trade

Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, has announced that Ghana has signed key agreements with Burkina Faso to enhance cross-border connectivity and support trade between the two countries.

Speaking on the development, Sam George said, “Last week, together with my Colleague Minister for Digital Transitions in Burkina Faso, Dr Aminata Zerbo, our Regulators signed two framework agreements to boost connectivity and trade between our two countries.”

He explained that the free roaming agreements will allow Ghanaians visiting Burkina Faso to receive calls from Ghana at no charge and make calls to Ghana at local Burkinabe rates, and vice versa.

“We also signed a border spectrum management arrangement that addresses the issues of cross-border network interference, easing the challenges in our border towns,” the minister added in a social media post sighted by MyNewsGh.

Sam George noted that the latest agreements build on previous arrangements with Togo, the Ivory Coast, Benin, and the Gambia, emphasizing Ghana’s commitment to regional collaboration.

“We would continue to pursue more such collaborations to support Ghanaian traders and citizens who visit our neighbouring countries. Kudos to the team at National Communications Authority Ghana for a job well done,” he said, concluding his statement with, “For God and Country. Cheers.”
