MI Abaga credits therapy and self-reflection for post-chocolate city renewal

MI Abaga has opened up about the personal challenges he faced after leaving Chocolate City, highlighting the period as a pivotal moment for self-reflection and growth.

During an interview with Chude Jideonwo monitored by MyNewsGh, MI Abaga said he had to reassess both his career and personal life.

“When your identity shatters like that, you look forward. My dad used to tell me a story: you go as far as you can see, and then the next three feet appear. That’s sometimes life,” he said.

The artist also discussed the difficulties of adjusting from a leadership role to focusing solely on his artistry.

“My leadership time at Chocolate City meant deprioritizing myself. Now I’m an older artist trying to be on a record label that had deprioritized itself. That reality comes full circle,” he explained.

MI Abaga admitted the transition prompted him to seek therapy and confront past personal mistakes.

“The loss of a relationship allowed me to see that I wasn’t the person I should have been. I needed to look at myself,” he said.

“He reflected on cultural and personal accountability, noting that relationships require trust and commitment.

Despite the challenges, MI Abaga expressed gratitude for the lessons learned. “It was very humbling, very good for the soul. It allowed me to step out and move forward,” he said.
