Lies just to belong – Jonnie Hughes responds to Offei’s allegations

Media personality and anti-corruption campaigner Johnnie Hughes has responded sharply to NPP sympathiser and social media commentator Justice Newton Offei, dismissing his claims as “lies just to belong.”
“How do you respond to old men who tell lies just to belong? In the beginning, he lied that we are friends and even cited Senior Stephen Anti. He didn’t stop there.
“He even claimed that I had impregnated somebody and rejected the child. Then he lied that I had gone to Maldives, when I was actually in the UK. Now he wants to rename me, haha!
“This is somebody that even Prez, Akufo-Addo found him worthless to employ beyond Serwaa Broni? Hungry man Newton? Who no know am for Ga? Lol,” Hughes said in a post shared online.
Observers note that Offei has largely faded from public view since the NPP lost power, prompting Hughes to question the former commentator’s credibility and motivations.
Hughes suggested that Offei’s criticisms have been opportunistic, targeting opponents when convenient while avoiding scrutiny of the NDC government, which now collects taxes.
According to Hughes, Offei’s principle of only criticizing those who collect taxes appears to have been a cover for partisanship.
“Going into hiding after NPP has lost power and NDC Administration is now collecting our taxes, should tell you what he said was ‘principle,’ was rather bigotry,” Hughes said.
Hughes also highlighted Offei’s past prominence on TV3 Ghana and 3FM 92.7, claiming that his relevance has waned since losing influence.
“He has given up his purposeless and incoherent rantings and gone into total oblivion because he hasn’t been sorted,” Hughes stated, implying frustration over colleagues receiving positions he feels Offei did not earn.
He further criticized Offei’s self-styled persona, noting, “His name is John Babatunde but goes about with pseudo name Johnny Beresford Hughes. With NPP now in opposition, he has completely run out of content.
“Such a crooked character portrayed himself as a patriot in his rantings. But in reality, he is a textbook example of stomach-direction enemy of our dear country.”
