INTERPOL warned the OSP in October 2025 and they ignored it

Former Special Prosecutor and Attorney General Martin Amidu has stated that the conduct of the Office of the Special Prosecutor regarding the Ken Ofori-Atta Red Notice has caused “enormous damage” to the agency’s integrity.

Amidu stressed that the OSP had been notified of “credible non-compliance” issues by INTERPOL as early as October 2025.

He argued that these issues made the Red Notice vulnerable to suspension. “The OSP was aware of the looming suspension and yet continued to act as though nothing was wrong,” he said.

He added that the OSP’s filing of charges on 18 November 2025 did not resolve the compliance issues. “It is doubtful that these matters can be corrected retroactively,” he said, suggesting that proper procedure was not followed from the beginning.

Amidu questioned whether the Ghana INTERPOL Bureau had “bent over backward for political reasons” to submit a non-compliant request for the Red Notice.

He referenced processes he established during his tenure and said those procedures ensure compliance with INTERPOL’s legal framework.

According to him, the situation has raised serious questions about professional standards within the OSP.
