Bawumia Can’t Secure Victory for NPP; Ken Agyapong Is the Choice of the Grassroots—Twifo Hemang MP

The Member of Parliament for Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira, Hon. Lawrence Agyin Sam, has stated that he supports Hon. Kennedy Agyapong over Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia because, in his view, Bawumia cannot lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory in the upcoming national elections.
Speaking in an interview, the MP explained that underground surveys and interactions at the grassroots level show that the majority of supporters on the ground do not favour Dr. Bawumia as the party’s flagbearer.
“From all the surveys and engagements, the people on the ground have not agreed to bring him to power. Who the grassroots are calling for is Kennedy Agyapong,” he stated.
According to him, winning an election goes far beyond the support of MPs and party leaders, adding that previous attempts or seniority in the party are not automatic criteria for electoral success.
He referenced former President John Dramani Mahama as an example, stressing that it was the overwhelming backing of grassroots supporters that made Mahama’s presidential bid possible.
“In our current situation, the people at the grassroots want Kennedy, but the delegates want Bawumia. The delegates must remember that they are choosing a candidate for the people. If the people say they do not want him, then their views must be respected,” Hon. Agyin Sam emphasized.
He warned that selecting a candidate who lacks widespread support could jeopardize the party’s chances in the general elections.
“If we want to win, we have to do the bidding of the people,” he said, expressing hope that the January 31 decision would reflect the sentiments of the majority.
