Actress Pascaline Edwards details her ordeal of ‘childlessness’ in the industry

Ghanaian actress Pascaline Edwards has shared a candid account of her early experiences in the entertainment industry, revealing how she balanced young motherhood with her budding career. Speaking on Neat 100.9 FM, Edwards recounted how she entered the industry while caring for a six-month-old baby. This fact was largely unnoticed due to her professionalism and composure.
“I came into the industry when I had just given birth to a six-month-old baby, but the way I carried myself, nobody knew I had a child. I was young at the time,” Edwards said. She emphasised her commitment to separating personal life from professional work, maintaining a polished yet modest appearance on set.
Despite her dedication, Edwards faced criticism from some quarters for investing in clothing and jewellery rather than focusing on expanding her family. She explained that she was supporting four siblings while her parents were absent, and her priority was building a strong foundation for her family rather than having multiple children.
“My plans were to raise an empire to help build my family, sort them out so they all would be comfortable,” she noted. Over time, those who initially criticized her later acknowledged her resilience and foresight, even commending her for having her first child at the junior high school level while theirs were still in primary school.
Reflecting on the challenges, Edwards credited her success to the guidance of her elder brother and the lessons learned in the entertainment industry, which she said helped make her “tough” and resilient.
Her story underscores the challenges young women in Ghana face in balancing personal responsibilities with professional ambitions, highlighting the importance of determination, discipline, and strong support systems.
