We disagree but respect the ruling

The legal counsel for Akosua Serwaa, William Kusi, says he and his client disagree with the Kumasi High Court’s ruling that rejected the ordinance marriage between the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba and Akosua Serwaa. However, he maintains that they will respect the judgment.
Speaking to the media after Thursday’s ruling in a video sighted by MyNewsGh, Kusi admitted the decision was disappointing. “We do not agree with the judge’s decision, but we have no option but to respect it,” he said.
The court’s decision followed a petition by Serwaa, who asked the court to recognize her as the late musician’s only surviving wife and to reject the claims of Lumba’s longtime partner, Odo Broni, with whom he had six children.
According to the ruling, the alleged ordinance marriage between Lumba and Serwaa could not be validated. This opened the way for both women to be acknowledged by the family in discussions surrounding Lumba’s funeral arrangements.
Kusi said he would be guiding his client to comply fully with the court’s directives. “I will advise my client to obey the judgment,” he stated, adding that Serwaa would not take any steps that contradict the ruling.
He further explained that the next stage rests with the family of the late musician. “We will leave everything in the hands of the family to decide the role to be given to the two women regarding the contentious funeral,” he noted.
