High Court annulment of Kpandai election a ‘grave miscarriage of electoral justice’

Communications Director of the NPP Northern Regional Executive Committee, Mr. Danjuma, has condemned the High Court’s annulment of the Kpandai parliamentary election, describing the ruling as a “grave miscarriage of electoral justice” and an “affront to democracy.”
Speaking on behalf of the party, Mr. Danjuma affirmed that Honourable Matthew Nyindam remains the duly elected MP, a position supported by the party leadership, Minority Caucus, and the Speaker of Parliament.
He stressed that the NPP will defend the seat through all legal channels and urged supporters to respond with “law, truth, and democratic vigilance.”
He alleged that the ruling was influenced by senior NDC politicians, noting what he described as premature celebrations by NDC supporters in Kpandai and Tamale before official results were declared. Mr. Danjuma also warned that the decision could set a dangerous precedent, rewarding violence and electoral malpractice in future elections.
On the December 7, 2024 election, he recounted that voting was largely peaceful, though NDC disruptors allegedly interfered with collation and destroyed materials.
The Returning Officer relocated the process to Tamale, where Nyindam was declared the winner with 27,647 votes (53.31%) against Daniel Nsala Wakpal’s 24,213 votes (46.69%).
Mr. Danjuma questioned the court’s order for a rerun at all 152 polling stations, noting that the NDC petition had only challenged 41, and called the ruling a violation of electoral jurisprudence and “judicial overreach of the most dangerous kind.”
