Better late than never – Kpebu welcomes COVID-19 removal

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has applauded the government’s decision to scrap the COVID-19 levy and other nuisance taxes previously introduced under the former NPP administration.
Speaking on KeyPoints on TV3 on Saturday, November 29, he said the policy shift is timely and will bring some relief to Ghanaians grappling with rising costs.
Kpebu noted that the economic pressure facing ordinary citizens makes the removal of such taxes not only necessary but urgent.
“Everywhere, people are complaining that the cost of living is high.
“This is a good measure to bring down the cost of living, he stated, emphasising the direct impact tax cuts can have on household finances.
He further suggested that although the decision should have come much earlier, the current NDC government deserves credit for acting.
“This is a promise that the president couldn’t have done anything about it. Better late than never,” he remarked.
