Kwame Adinkra Earns PhD from KNUST with Groundbreaking Research

Ghanaian broadcast journalist, singer, philanthropist, and public speaker, Luther King Kwame Adinkrah, popularly known as Kwame Adinkra or Apotiti Matie, has achieved a major academic milestone as he graduates with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Visual Communication Design from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The seasoned media personality, who currently serves as the Morning Show Host on Pure FM, successfully defended a pioneering thesis titled: “Visual Pollution and Urban Livability in Kumasi: A Visual Communication Design Perspective on Billboard Proliferation and Sustainable Development.”
The research investigates how the uncontrolled rise of billboards and outdoor advertising in Kumasi contributes to visual clutter, reduces aesthetic quality, and affects overall urban livability.
Dr. Adinkrah’s work further proposes design-centred policy interventions to sanitize the city’s visual environment and align outdoor advertising practices with principles of sustainable urban development.
Before joining Pure FM, Kwame Adinkra served as the host and Chief Operating Officer of Angel Broadcasting Network, where he gained nationwide recognition for his commanding voice, social advocacy, and versatility across radio and music.
Colleagues and admirers celebrate his academic achievement as evidence of his commitment to personal development, intellectual excellence, and national progress.
Many in the creative arts, media, and academic communities believe his research provides actionable insights for city planners, municipal authorities, and policymakers seeking to balance commercial advertising with a healthy urban environment.
With this PhD, Dr. Adinkrah joins the growing league of Ghanaian media professionals breaking new ground in academia while continuing to shape public discourse through their work.
