Ablakwa donates 47 laptops to PRESEC 8As students

Foreign Affairs Minister and North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has celebrated the academic achievements of students at PRESEC–Legon while urging a national rethink of Ghana’s educational priorities during the school’s 87th Speech and Prize-Giving Day.

In a message shared on his media page sighted by MyNewsGh, Ablakwa highlighted his support for exceptional student performance during a visit to the school.

“We had a fantastic and memorable time in PRESEC yesterday,” he wrote. “I made a modest contribution by donating 47 laptops to the 47 phenomenal students who obtained 8As in the 2024 WASSCE. Congratulations to the astounding Y2K year group for the impressive leadership and refurbishment of our dining hall.”

Ablakwa also used the platform to challenge what he described as misplaced national priorities in the education system. He argued that public debate often fixates on symbolic issues rather than the values needed to shape ethical and responsible citizens.

“Instead of focusing on how strict religious doctrines are enforced in our schools and the weird correlation between short hair and disciplined students, it is time to ponder the real issues,” he said, referencing recent controversies over religious restrictions at Wesley Girls SHS and the renewed hair policy debate.

Ablakwa questioned why Ghana continues to produce graduates who contribute to corruption and environmental harm. “Why is our educational system producing graduates who criminally create thousands of ghosts to fleece the state when real human beings are looking for jobs?” he asked.

He extended this concern to environmental destruction caused by illegal mining. “Why is our educational system producing graduates who would destroy our environment, pollute our river bodies, and create a public health crisis for the rest of us?” he added.
