Nobody gets wealthy on a paycheck

Dr. Wesley Ogude used his interview on the Wealth on Your Terms Podcast monitored by MyNewsGh to challenge what he described as widespread illusions around income and financial security.

Despite a high-achieving corporate career in Canada, he admitted he misunderstood wealth for decades.

“My lovely wife kept telling me that we were not wealthy. And I found that insulting,” he recalled of his executive years.

“Even after becoming the first Black finance director in 50 years at one of Canada’s largest integrated logistics companies, he says he was still not building real wealth.

According to him, the reason was simple. “You can earn high income alone… but you cannot create wealth alone,” he argued.

He labelled this principle the rule of team, explaining that genuine wealth comes from systems where others’ skills, time, and productivity work on your behalf.

Dr. Ogude criticized overreliance on employment income. “The 9-to-5 job will never create wealth for you. Nobody ever gets wealthy on a payroll,” he insisted.

He cited examples of high-earning celebrities who lost fortunes to illustrate that large earnings do not equal wealth.

He added that his perspective changed only after he built operations across multiple countries.

“While I’m sleeping, the team is working. It is not my personal productivity bringing wealth today,” he said.
