GES Clarifies Facts on 2025 WASSCE Results Amid Public Debate

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has addressed public discussions surrounding the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, providing clarity on claims made regarding the examination process and performance of students.
In an immediate press release dated December 1, 2025, GES emphasized that the 2025 WASSCE results accurately reflect the academic performance of candidates and urged the public to treat them as a credible representation of students’ abilities.
The release comes amid statements from Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, immediate past Minister for Education, attributing the performance to alleged unsupportive management practices by GES.
GES firmly rejected claims that any teacher allowances had been cancelled, clarifying that the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department had publicly explained reasons for non-payment of November allowances. The Service described attempts to link the results to administrative shortcomings as “an attempt to shift focus” from the integrity of the examination process.
The release further outlined the measures taken to maintain examination integrity, including heightened invigilation, strengthened supervision, and strict adherence to protocols. These measures reportedly led to the apprehension of students and staff attempting malpractice.
GES also noted that any teacher or official found aiding or abetting malpractice faced strong sanctions, which were rigorously enforced. The Service reassured the public that the integrity of examinations would not be compromised and highlighted that the May/June 2026 WASSCE will be conducted as an international West African examination, moving away from the previous Ghana-only version.
Finally, GES reiterated its commitment to working closely with heads of schools, teachers, students, parents, civil society organizations, and WAEC to improve teaching, learning, and the integrity of the examination system.
