Emmanuel Kotin criticizes Afenyo-Markin’s leadership style

Former Director of the African Centre for Security and Counter-Terrorism, Emmanuel Kotin, has criticized Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, describing his leadership style as “student-like” and overly emotional.

Speaking on 3FM, Kotin said he is concerned about the approach of some opposition leaders, particularly in relation to youth engagement and national development.

“I sometimes question myself, how long they have been in opposition,” he said.

“Afenyo-Markin’s personality is a huge challenge. He behaves like a student leader, and as a youth, I get worried.”

Kotin further argued that the expectations of young people in leadership positions are aligned with global standards; however, Afenyo Markin is not living up to expectation.

“The UN Convention is urging governments to hinge their development agenda on the youth, yet Afenyo-Markin has not demonstrated that the youth can lead. To me, it is a disgrace to us as young people. He does not listen, behaves like a student leader, and sometimes becomes too emotional.”

He emphasized the responsibilities attached to being a minority leader, noting the role carries privileges and influence comparable to those of a minister.

“To be a Minority Leader is not a small thing. It is everything that you must speak on. As a leader, if you have nothing to say, it is better not to speak at all because what you say carries a lot of weight,” Kotin said.
