Lawyer Quayson has commended the judge presiding over the high-profile Daddy Lumba case, describing the ruling as “superb” and deserving of special recognition. Speaking on Gyasogyaso with Vim Lady on Okay FM, Quayson noted that the judgment struck a fair balance, even though procedural technicalities could have led to a different outcome.
The case, which has attracted significant public attention, revolved around disputes between Daddy Lumba and Akosua Serwaa concerning claims over marital status and related legal rights. At one point, questions were raised about the authenticity of certain documents, including the original marriage certificate, which Akosua Serwaa’s legal team failed to produce. Critics argued that this failure could have led to her disqualification.
Quayson praised the judge for navigating these complexities with fairness. “The judge should be given a special award,” he said. “I personally supported both parties, and I was happy that in the end, the ruling recognised both Daddy Lumba and the interests of Ghanaians.”
He further explained that the judge’s decision reflected consideration not only of legal arguments but also public sentiment. “The judge listened to the pleas and concerns of both the spirit of Daddy Lumba and the public. Despite the technicalities, such as the missing original marriage certificate, the ruling was fair and just,” Quayson stated.
The lawyer added that Ghanaians are largely satisfied with the outcome, seeing the decision as a demonstration of judicial prudence and common sense. “Many people expected that the technical issues could have overshadowed fairness, but the judge made the right call,” he said.
