WAEC to release full Chief Examiners’ report in two weeks

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it will release the detailed Chief Examiners’ Report for the 2025 WASSCE within the next two weeks, as concerns continue to mount over mass cheating and widespread weaknesses detected in this year’s results.
John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, disclosed that the Council currently has only a general summary of candidates’ performance, highlighting broad strengths and weaknesses across subjects. However, the full report, which contains a detailed breakdown of errors, patterns of malpractice, and subject-specific recommendations, is still being finalised.
“We currently have a general résumé which is just a summary of the strengths and weaknesses exhibited during the examination,” Kapi said. “As we speak, I have the one for Core Mathematics and Core Social Studies, areas that are of critical importance to us, especially after reviewing the results that have just come out.”
He explained that the document in circulation is not the comprehensive Chief Examiners’ Report traditionally used by teachers, schools, and policymakers to analyse where students struggled and what factors contributed to poor outcomes.
“What we have now is not the detailed report. It is just a summary,” he emphasised. “We are hoping to come out with the full Chief Examiners’ Report in a week or two so that it will assist teachers to assess what has gone wrong and help reinforce certain areas in their teaching activities.”
