PURC raises electricity and water tariffs from January 1, 2026

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has approved new electricity and water tariffs to take effect on January 1, 2026, following the completion of its 2026–2030 Multi-Year Tariff Review (MYTO).
In a statement, the Commission said the review followed months of investment hearings, stakeholder consultations and regional public forums held nationwide.
The PURC announced a 9.86% increase in electricity tariffs across all customer categories.
The adjustment, it noted, reflects the investment needs of power utilities, expected generation inputs and key macroeconomic indicators, including inflation, the cedi–dollar exchange rate and the cost of natural gas.
The review also examined operational expenses and the regulated asset base of utilities over the next five years. Quarterly reviews will continue to account for external variables such as fuel costs and generation mix.
Water tariffs will rise by 15.92% over the 2026–2030 period. The Commission said the adjustment is based on projected production and sales volumes, capital investment needs, non-revenue water levels and broader economic conditions.
Residential, non-residential, commercial and industrial consumers will all see higher charges, though service fees remain unchanged.
For the first time, the MYTO includes tariffs for mini-grids serving island and remote communities.
The cost of supplying these areas at national uniform rates has been incorporated into the revenue requirement of the Volta River Authority (VRA).
