He will likely spend Christmas in custody

Paul Yandoh, Ashanti Regional NPP Executive, has indicated that former National Service Authority (NSA) boss Osei Assibey Antwi may likely spend the Christmas holiday in custody due to the severity of his alleged offenses.
“The allegations against him are grave. Considering the hefty bail conditions, I feel he will spend Christmas in custody,” Yandoh said in an interview with Ezra Adekyee which was monitored by MyNewsGh.
When asked whether the party would visit Assibey in prison to show solidarity, similar to the support shown during the detention of Ashanti Regional Chairman Wontumi, Yandoh was cautious.
“It depends on the closeness of the relationship. But regardless, we would ensure we show up to express support for him,” he said.
The comments come amid serious charges facing the former NSA Executive Director. Osei Assibey Antwi has been charged with 14 counts, including causing financial loss to the Republic, stealing, and money laundering, in a case involving more than GH¢600 million.
According to court documents filed at the High Court in Accra, Assibey allegedly authorised payments to over 60,000 non-existent national service personnel and misappropriated public funds during his tenure between August 2021 and February 2025.
He faces multiple counts under sections 179A(1) and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and section 1(2)(c) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).
Prosecutors allege that he caused a financial loss of GH¢500,861,744.02 by authorising payments to “ghost” service personnel and dishonestly appropriated millions of cedis between August 2023 and May 2024.
