Former MP Nana Akua Afriyie invokes curses on NDC over Ablekuma North election defeat

Former Member of Parliament(MP) of Ablekuma, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, has expressed deep dissatisfaction over the outcome of the Ablekuma North Constituency parliamentary election, claiming that she was unjustly denied victory by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC)
Speaking in an interview, Nana Akua Afriyie insisted that she had won the election by over 400 votes, pointing to what she described as the original pink sheet as evidence of her victory. She further alleged that the NDC employed unfair tactics to wrest the seat from her.
“I won the Ablekuma North elections and I keep repeating I won with 414 votes, and the original pink sheet bears me out,” she stated. “I’m not in Parliament today only because my party is not in power, and someone thinks her party is in power and would take the seat from me by force. We went to court, and the judge asked us to return to the EC, but because it wasn’t my party in power, they orchestrated for the EC to rerun the elections in 19 polling stations.”
Nana Akua Afriyie, went further to say she does not wish the NDC well. “We must avoid things that would bring curses unto ourselves, but as for me, I have cursed the NDC for what they did to me, a widow. The worst is yet to come upon them; a huge curse is upon them,” she added.
The controversy stems from the rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary election, which took place on 11 July 2025 across 19 polling stations. The Electoral Commission (EC) initially declared NPP candidate Ewurabena Aubynn as the winner, before reversing the decision in favour of Afriyie. Following legal interventions and discussions with political party representatives at IPAC, a rerun was conducted, and Ewurabena Aubynn ultimately emerged victorious, marking the first time the NDC has won the seat since 1992.
