Paul Yandoh accuses NDC of setting impossible bail for embattled former NSS Boss Osei Assibey

The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Yandoh, has strongly criticised what he describes as harsh and politically motivated allegations against the embattled former Kumasi Mayor, Osei Assibey Antwi, insisting the bail conditions imposed on him are impossible to meet.

Speaking on Ezra Radio, Yandoh accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of orchestrating what he calls a deliberate attempt to destroy the former mayor’s reputation.

According to him, “The NDC people are bad people for the allegations they have put on Osei Assibey. For them to lie that he has stolen 2.2 billion cedis, money that is given to an entire ministry as a budget, how can Osei Assibey take this money?”

Yandoh questioned the credibility of the accusations and argued that Osei Assibey does not possess the financial capacity to commit such an offence.
He remarked, “Even with me, if I get 1 million cedis, my walking and laughter will change. So how can Osei Assibey have such an amount? This is a man who when you ask him for money, he starts complaining that he doesn’t have it.”

He revealed that the money the state prosecutors are requesting is unrealistic.
“They stated 800 million Ghana cedis. What properties can we sell in this country that will make us get 800 million for his bail?” he questioned.

According to Yandoh, the bail condition is so severe that it is almost certain the former mayor cannot satisfy it.
“From the looks of things, Osei Assibey might stay in their custody forever and we can do nothing about it,” he lamented.

He further called on the public to scrutinize the conduct of security agencies under the current administration.
“We have to check what these NDC state agencies are doing and talk about it to make sure they do the legal thing. This might happen to any of us because a mere allegation must not lead to such an outrageous bail,” he warned.
