I sponsored my first election against Rawlings because NPP doubted my chances—Kufour

Former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufour has said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) did not believe in his chances against Jerry John Rawlings the first time he contested him.
According to him, the party did not contribute a penny to his campaign during the period.
He made this known when he spoke to Deloris Frimpong Manso in a yet-to-be-released interview.
“My party didn’t even believe I had any chance. They did not even give me a bicycle for the campaign. I footed the bills for my campaign. He owned the country, and even the women said he was the handsome one.
Kufour said his party’s fears did not deter him from contesting the election, and with the help of a few friends, he campaigned throughout the country.
“I put a team together, and with a few pickups, we campaigned. On the day of the elections, the EC Chairperson said he needed protection to announce the results,” he recalled.
