Troost-Ekong announces his International retirement

Nigeria’s skipper, Troost-Ekong William, has announced his retirement from international football.

In a statement shared via social media, he explained that he has done his bit for Nigeria and it’s imperative that he passes on the baton to the next person.

He says he is at peace knowing that he gave his best in the service of his national team and the country.

Troost-Ekong used the opportunity to thank his colleagues for the support throughout these years and was hopeful that since they have all grown into leaders, they will help Nigeria propel.

“I AM AT PEACE KNOWING THAT THROUGHOUT ALL THESE MILESTONES I GAVE EVERYTHING I HAD. NOT JUST FOR MYSELF BUT TO TRY TO INSPIRE THE NEXT GENERATION THE SAME WAY I WAS INSPIRED BY THE LEGENDS I LOOKED UP TO, AND HAD THE PLEASURE TO FIGHT SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH.”

Troost joined the Nigerian National team in 2015 after he was called up by the late Stephen Keshi.

The Defender hasn’t looked back until then and has moved on to become the defender with the highest goals in the AFCON.

In all, Troost has had 83 appearances for the Nigerian male national team, winning three medals.
