We will win Kpandai, but not through illegality

Hamza Suhuyini of the NDC communication team says the party will not support any actions that appear to sidestep legal procedures as the Kpandai parliamentary rerun approaches.

Addressing the controversy surrounding Parliament’s notification to the EC, he said the NDC remains committed to upholding state institutions and the laws governing elections.

“In principle, I don’t think I disagree with many of the legal analyses… but we must be guided by the 1992 Constitution and our court ethics and practices,” he said in an interview on Metro TV monitored by MyNewsGh

He warned that dangerous precedents created in past administrations may influence non-political state actors.

“When you set precedents that are dangerous, there’s the tendency for state actors… to conclude that since this is the precedent, let’s go according to that.”

Suhuyini contrasted the NDC’s approach with what he described as high-handedness under the previous government.

“The NPP found absolutely nothing wrong with the high-handedness that was being executed… We will not behave like the New Patriotic Party.”

He stressed that the NDC would not defend institutional excesses, even when such actions could benefit the party.

“We will not sit on platforms and seek to pass excesses of state institutions. State institutions must begin to take a cue from us.”

Suhuyini expressed confidence that the NDC would win the rerun if the seat is eventually confirmed vacant. “We are on the grounds. We will win the Kpandai seat. So we are not in a hurry.”

He also cited the leadership of former President Mahama. “This is a gentleman who adheres to the laws of this country no matter the cost… We will do our best to deliver a republic that can work for all of us.”
