EOCO denies contact with Abu Trica before arrest

EOCO has dismissed claims that it contacted cybercrime suspect Abu Trica before his arrest.
In a December 16, 2025 statement, the agency called media reports suggesting prior engagement with the suspect “false and misleading.” “The Office did not on any occasion contact ‘Abu Trica’ before the arrest as is being speculated,” said EOCO’s Head of Public Affairs.
The clarification comes after EOCO announced on December 12, 2025, the arrest of Frederick Kumi, also known as Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng, alias Abu Trica, allegedly behind an $8 million romance scam.
EOCO said the statement was necessary to protect the integrity of its operations and correct the public record. The Office reaffirmed its commitment to fighting economic and organised crime and urged the public to report offences.
