I’m not an NDC MP or an NPP MP, I’m everybody’s MP

Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has defended his political posture, saying his primary loyalty lies with the development needs of his constituency rather than strict party alignment.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on JoyNews’ AM Show, A Plus said his focus is on securing tangible improvements for Gomoa Central, which he described as severely underdeveloped.

“All I want to do is to develop my constituency. My entire constituency doesn’t have roads,” he said, explaining that this reality shapes his political decisions.

“So if there is a government that is development-oriented, I will have to join them because I want some of that development to go to my constituency.”

He rejected labels that tie him permanently to any political party, presenting himself instead as a representative for all residents of the area.

“I’m not an NDC MP or an NPP MP. I’m everybody’s MP, and everybody comes to me,” he said.

Using a metaphor to explain his approach, A Plus argued that local expectations make his position unavoidable.

“Everybody wants a piece of the national cake, and in my constituency, I am the cake,” he stated, suggesting that constituents look to him as the conduit for national resources.

A Plus added that his stance is driven by pragmatism rather than political loyalty, stressing that he would have acted the same way regardless of which party won power.

“I don’t have permanent friends. I have permanent interests,” he noted, hinting that his decisions are guided solely by what he believes will benefit Gomoa Central.
