Nigerian actress to sue pastor Chris for refusing to marry her after wedding another woman

Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has issued a pre-action notice against Grace Nation Ministry founder Chris Okafor, accusing him of breaching a promise of marriage after marrying another woman.

The notice follows the circulation of videos showing Okafor’s engagement and subsequent wedding ceremonies, which surfaced online last weekend and again on Wednesday. Ogala claims she had been in a relationship with the cleric since 2017.

In a letter dated December 16, her lawyers allege that Okafor initiated a pastoral relationship with Ogala during a difficult period in her former marriage and made what they described as “clear, consistent and unequivocal” promises to marry her. She claims she left her previous marriage at his insistence.

Ogala further alleges that the relationship caused serious emotional and psychological distress, including suicidal thoughts. She also accused the cleric of harassment, financial exploitation, and the “unauthorised and malicious” disclosure of explicit images.

According to the notice, Ogala allegedly entrusted Okafor with ₦45 million and used her personal funds to support him and his associates in securing a contract, but was not fully reimbursed. Her counsel argues that the public repudiation of the alleged promise of marriage caused reputational and psychological harm.

The letter demands ₦1 billion in damages and gives Okafor 21 days to respond, failing which legal action will be pursued.
