Ghana’s Ambassador Victor Smith presents credentials to president Donald Trump

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Emmanuel Smith, has officially begun his diplomatic assignment after presenting his credentials to U.S. President Donald J. Trump at the White House.
The ceremony was held at the Oval Office, where President Trump received 15 newly accredited ambassadors. Ambassador Smith was the first envoy called forward during the session, a sequence that highlighted Ghana’s presence during the engagement.
The atmosphere briefly turned light when President Trump, upon seeing the Ghanaian envoy, remarked, “look at this good-looking guy,” prompting laughter and setting a cordial tone for the interaction.
In his remarks, Ambassador Smith conveyed greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and reaffirmed Ghana’s interest in deepening its long-standing partnership with the United States. He underscored Accra’s focus on strengthening cooperation in trade, investment and economic diplomacy.
The Ambassador described Ghana as a stable democracy and a strategic commercial gateway, noting its access to a sub-regional market of more than 400 million people and a continental market exceeding 1.4 billion.
He also pointed to Ghana’s role as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat as a key advantage for U.S. firms seeking entry into African markets.
Ambassador Smith said Ghana is ready to expand engagement with American businesses, particularly in manufacturing, agribusiness, energy, technology and services. He also extended an invitation to President Trump to visit Ghana, describing such a visit as an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral ties.
The credential presentation marks a formal milestone in Ambassador Smith’s tenure and signals a renewed phase of U.S.–Ghana engagement across political, economic and people-to-people relations.
