A-Plus mourns Daddy Lumba, calls for preservation of the legend’s legacy

Former musician cum lawmaker Hon. Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has opened up about his grief following the passing of Ghanaian highlife legend, Daddy Lumba, and urged the nation to take concrete steps to preserve his legacy.
A-Plus recalled how he received the news of the music icon’s death at dawn but chose not to break it publicly out of respect for the family.
“I got the news at dawn that our legend had passed. However, he has family, and I have to be responsible with reportage. I didn’t want to be the one to announce it. It had to come from the family,” he explained in an interview with GhanaWeb monitored by MyNewsGh.
Rather than make an official statement, A-Plus chose to honour the legend in his own way.
“I’m one of Daddy Lumba’s biggest fans, so I just decided to play some of his songs on my page. All that time, I knew he had passed, but I was just talking to people. It’s a very sad situation,” he said.
He noted that while death is inevitable, the loss of Daddy Lumba has deeply affected the country.
“It gets to a point where it becomes difficult to contain. I think the whole country is in mourning, not just me,” he added.
Reflecting on the emotional impact of Lumba’s passing, A-Plus described it as a universal loss.
“Daddy Lumba’s death will affect everybody. It’s natural. You don’t choose to mourn or not.
You hear about it and it hits you,” he said.
