A treasure to our party and nation – NDC pays tribute to Omane Boamah

Today marks the final funeral rites for the victims of the tragic August 6 helicopter crash at Adansi Afuokrom in the Ashanti Region, including Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, a former Defence Minister and veteran political strategist.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described Dr. Omane Boamah as “brilliant, strategic, and utterly fearless”, highlighting his unwavering dedication to justice, democracy, and public service.

“From his earliest days as a fearless student leader as NUGS President, his leadership was already evident. His life was defined by courage, intellect, and unyielding dedication to justice,” the party said in a tribute.

The NDC recalled how Dr. Omane Boamah stood up to the NPP government over withheld GETFund payments, relentlessly pursuing justice under pressure.

“He became a thorn in the side of his political opponents, enduring hostility and pressure with unflinching resolve,” the tribute read.

Throughout his political career, Dr. Omane Boamah held high-profile roles including Deputy Minister for Environment, Science and Technology under President John Evans Atta Mills, and later, Minister for Communication, Presidential Spokesperson, and Minister for Defence during President John Dramani Mahama’s tenure.

“He was more than a political strategist; he was a fighter for democracy, a compassionate human being, a man generous in spirit and quick to lend a helping hand,” the NDC stated.

As Director of Elections, he was credited with mobilising resources, overseeing campaigns, and safeguarding electoral integrity, earning respect for his intellect, empathy, and resilience.

The NDC concluded their tribute by describing Dr. Omane Boamah as “a treasure to our Party and nation”, leaving a legacy of service, courage, and inspiration for future generations.
