Ablakwa hails Omane Boamah’s role in shaping NDC’s historic victory

Minister for Foreign Affairs and MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, hailing him as a man who lived by conviction, served with loyalty, and valued family above all else.
According to Ablakwa, Dr. Omane Boamah’s entry into the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was a deliberate and principled decision.
Born into a family aligned with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and even holding an NPP party card issued by the party’s first National General Secretary, Joseph Agyenim Boateng, Boamah could have easily joined the ruling NPP during the Kufuor presidency for personal gain after his tenure as President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).
Instead, “he chose his conscience and conviction, not personal comfort,” Ablakwa said, crediting numerous ideological conversations with political stalwart Uncle Ato Ahwoi as instrumental in Boamah’s decision to join the NDC while it was still in opposition.
Dr. Omane Boamah’s political journey was built on years of hard work, sacrifice, and loyalty. His appointment as Minister of Defence under President John Mahama was the result of consistent dedication, strategic brilliance, and deep thinking.
As NDC Election Director, he masterminded one of the party’s most decisive electoral victories, introducing innovative vote-protection measures, including the use of body cameras, to safeguard electoral integrity.
Beyond politics, Dr. Boamah was a policy visionary. Many Ghanaians, Ablakwa noted, are unaware that he was the architect behind two major social initiatives — the Free Primary Healthcare policy and the Mahama Cares programme.
He was also deeply admired for his role as a devoted family man. “He was uncompromising about quality family time and family obligations,” Ablakwa said, praising his dedication to his wife, Rita, and their children, Akua, Ama, and Yaw.
Ablakwa concluded his tribute by describing Dr. Omane Boamah as not only a political strategist and policymaker but also “a formidable comrade and an exceptional father whose legacy will endure for generations.”
